This will be Chapter Black’s first time playing at the Knitting Factory. Tickets for the show are free and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained by listening to 100.3 the X or following the X to different local events.
“Free X Shows” are a signature concert series the X radio station puts on with the Knitting Factory. Past performances have included bands such as Chevelle, Evanescence, Avatar, and Otherwise.
These shows also provide the perfect platform to showcase local artists,” said Randy Perkins, the X 100.3 radio host. “We have so many talented musicians right here in our own backyard, and it’s important to us that we support them in any way possible.”
Chapter Black has been on my radar for a while because I’ve seen how hard they work,” Perkins said. “The passion they put into their craft is remarkable. I’ve had the pleasure of premiering three of their songs on my X-Clusive show, so naturally the next step for them is a big live show like this one with Red. It’s always exciting to watch a local band play their first Free X Show and I can’t wait for the Treasure Valley to see them on March 15.”
Band members of Chapter Black, are as follows; David Rose, backing vocalist and guitarist, Nik Potter, bass guitarist, Zac Herndon, guitarist, Joe Martin, drummer and Andrew McBride, vocalist.
We try to be different than other bands, in that we have our own unique sound,” McBride said.
Chapter Black, formerly, Lost in Silence, was formed in 2015 by Rose and Potter.
I was previously in the band Bone River, from Washington,” Martin offered. “We went on tour with Saliva. I joined Chapter Black after we broke up.”
I started playing music in middle school,” Herndon said. “I begged my mom for a guitar and ended up getting my first electric. It was a ‘Sharper Image’ guitar that came with an instructional DVD. That thing was terrible.”
Some of my friends started a band, and they needed a bass guitar player, so I learned it,” Potter shared.
I got into music from a young age,” McBride said. “My stepdad taught me how to play ‘Crazy Train,’ [by Ozzy Osbourne] on piano.”
Each of the guys are inspired by different bands. However, their major influences are Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin, Avatar, and some country music.
Everyone gives me a bad time for this, but I love Nickelback,” Rose said. “They are one of my greatest influences.”
Chapter Black has announced they will be releasing a full length album soon, titled Volume 1, in 2018.
We are currently mixing Volume 1, with Nathan Barns at Osmosis Studio,” McBride said. “Every song will be like a chapter in a book that references darkness in humanity. Each song will focus on everything that goes on with a person like mental illness, drug use, violence and those sort of important things.”
When people hear a song, they hear the lyrics and that’s it. They don’t listen any deeper than that. The music itself can tell a story, more often than the words. It’s what you make it.”
