Red Sun Rising exploded on the rock scene seemingly overnight with the release of their major label debut, Polyester Zeal in 2015. The band’s “overnight” success was a decade in the making, with vocalist Mike Protich and guitarist Ryan Williams forming the group in 2006. In an era where far too many bands suffer the disease of generic sameness, Red Sun Rising are a divine exception and reminder that great rock music is still alive. The band independently released a self-titled effort in 2010 and a sophomore effort, Making of Kings in 2011. Two EPs would follow in 2012 and 2013, leading to their signing with Razor & Tie Records in 2014. Polyester Zeal dropped in August 2015 and spawned three Top 10 Mainstream Rock singles, including two,”The Otherside” and “Emotionless” that went to #1.
The band, which also features drummer Pat Gerasia, bassist Ricky Miller, and new guitarist Dave McGarry, have spent the last two years touring extensively, and making themselves one of rock’s “must see” live acts. The group put their own spin on a cover of Alanis Morissette’s “Univited,” releasing a stunning video for it earlier this year. Fans are eagerly awaiting their next album.
There is not telling when Red Sun Rising will get back to Idaho, so this is a show not to be missed.
