Few hip-hop artists have been as prolific and consistent over the last quarter century as Kansas City-based rapper Tech N9ne. This decade alone he has released nine new full-length studio albums including several highly-acclaimed collaboration projects. He’s also released numerous EP’s; among them, a foray into rap-metal with 2013’s Therapy. This month, Tech N9ne drops his 18th studio album, Dominion.
Aside from his outstanding body of recorded work, Tech N9ne is also renowned for his non-stop touring schedule. This includes his current Strictly Strange Tour 2017 which hits 68 cities in just 74 days. The rapper has once again brought several of his friends on the road including Brotha Lynch Hung and labelmates Krizz Kaliko, Stevie Stone and Ces Cru. Kaliko released his latest record, Go, in 2016, while Stone will unleash his latest effort April 28. Rap duo Ces Cru dropped its Catastrophic Event Specialists record this winter.
Idaho Music Scene caught up with the Strictly Strange tour as it exploded through Boise, Idaho, a city that has become a regular touring hotspot for Tech N9ne. The Knitting Factory features a packed house every time the Missouri rapper comes to town and the April 5 show proved no different. Utilizing two large projection screens, numerous costume changes and a dazzling light show, Tech N9ne and his friends delighted the capacity crowd with a set that included fan favorites such as “Stamina,” “Einstein,” “Godspeed,” “Riotmaker,” “B.I.T.C.H.,” “Dysfunctional,” “There’s a Demon Inside of Me” and many others.
Tech N9ne and the rest of the line-up gave the Boise faithful a true 100% effort, and the fans stayed with them through the entire show. As one fan offered on the way out the doors, “I’ve seen Tech N9ne over a dozen times, and he never fails to bring a stellar show and great guests.”
