Danish rockabilly-infused hard rock quartet, Volbeat, is currently tearing up the U.S. countryside in support of the band’s sixth and latest album, Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie. Fronted by the powerful voice of Michael Poulsen and backed by the steady stick work of drummer Jon Larsen, the band is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano has found a new home with the band, and this marks the first tour for new bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen.
Idaho Music Scene caught up with Volbeat as they passed through Boise on September 7th at Taco Bell Arena. The band delivered a fantastic show accented by high energy performances and dynamic visual elements. The band opened the set with the debut single from the new album, “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown”. It was one of seven songs performed from the record which also included “Seal the Deal” and “Let it Burn”. The opener was followed by a medley of songs that included fan favorites, “Heaven nor Hell,” A Warrior’s Call” and “I Only Want to Be With You.” The show ended with an amazing four-song encore.
During the show, Volbeat covered the breadth of its catalog playing songs from all of their studio albums. Some of the highlights included “Doc Holliday” and “Lola Montez” from 2013’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, “Still Counting” from 2008’s Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood, as well as, “16 Dollars” from 2010’s Beyond Hell/Above Heaven album. The band’s full setlist can be viewed here.
Killswitch Engage and Black Wizard both gave raucous performances to open the show.
